A Guide to Buying Jewellery Online

It’s important to remember that buying jewellery online is a different proposition from doing so in person. You won’t have a sales assistant there to guide you, so it’s important to be well informed. While the design is of course very important, you should also think about size, material, and whom you are buying from. To make things a bit easier for you, we’ve jotted down this quick guide to demystify the process of shopping for body jewellery. So helpful of us, right?

Jewellery Size

We put this one first because it’s super important. A piece that’s too small will cause irritation, while one that’s too large either won’t fit properly, or it’ll snag on clothes or other things. If you came to Lighthouse – your favourite Brighton piercing shop, no doubt – then we’ll have written down your original size on your aftercare instructions. Otherwise, you can always call your piercer and find out your original size.

If neither of these is possible, don’t worry. Our Jewellery Guide makes things simple.

Durability

Some items are suitable for daily wear while others are a little bit more delicate. Most of the jewellery you’ll find at Lighthouse is perfect for day-to-day usage, but some of our more decorative pieces should only be worn on special occasions. If you’re ever unsure about an item’s durability, you should always ask.

Materials

Choosing the correct materials is crucial when buying jewellery online. The material should always be clearly listed by the seller but if not, we would suggest shopping elsewhere. You should never put jewellery into your body without knowing its construction. So, maybe try a nice little piercing studio in Brighton called, say… Lighthouse?

For people with allergies or sensitivities, this step is particularly important. Lighthouse always pierces with grade 23 titanium, but you’ll be able to wear other materials once you’ve healed fully. If you’re particularly sensitive to certain substances, please let us know beforehand. We wouldn’t want to sell you an item that’s not suitable for you.

Check and double-check

You’ve checked out the size. Great. And you’ve chosen the correct material. Awesome! But don’t forget to make sure you’ve selected the right colour and design. Most sellers (including Lighthouse) won’t accept returns on body jewellery. Why? Great question. It’s because it’s impossible to verify that a piece hasn’t been worn. So, if you want to avoid needlessly wasting some of your hard-earned cash, always check and double-check.

Got questions? No problem

Any seller worth their salt will be more than happy to answer your pre-purchase questions, so you should never be afraid to make inquiries. After all, they should ensure you’re happy with their product. That’s certainly our approach. And if a seller doesn’t answer your questions with politeness and sincerity, we suggest taking your business elsewhere. Hint, buy stuff from us, hint.

Safety first, always

A beautiful piece is great, but all that prettiness won’t be much consolation if it’s not safe. As such, it’s super important to go with a retailer that you know and trust. So, why not Lighthouse? Check our webshop for own selection of body jewellery.

If you have any questions for us, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Give us a call on 01273739019. One of our friendly team will be more than happy to help.

Or if you’re looking for a piercing shop in Brighton, please pop into our studio on Queen’s Road.
